• Chairman of the Department of Veterinary Physiology & sport medicine, ULg (1986-).
• Head of the centre for Equine Studies, Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, UK (1996-1999)
• Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (ULg) (2002-2008)

• Member of the Board of the World Equine Veterinary Association (1991-1999).
• Member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and the Royal Academy of Sciences of Belgium
• President of the Belgian Equine Practitioner Society (1998-2004)
• Chairman of the governing council of the EU network of excellence Eadgene (2005)

• Author of 5 books, 250 publications in international scientific journals, 25 chapters in scientific books and 250 communications at international scientific meetings
